JPRS Modified JP Domain Name Registration Services and Procedures

- To Meet the Needs of Emerging or New Companies -

(17 November 2003)

JPRS implemented the following service changes based on the voice of the local Internet community. Along with this change, some parts of the registration rule documents have been revised. JPRS believes JP Domain Name would become more user-friendly by this change.

1. Simplified CO.JP Processes

CO.JP domain name may be applied for by companies incorporated in Japan. In the past, the companies still preparing for official incorporation but hoping to register a CO.JP name had to show evidence of provisional corporate registration. However, to meet the needs of emerging or new companies, JPRS simplified a part of its rules. From 17 November, JPRS does not require evidence of provisional corporate registration upon application. JPRS hopes this measure helps those companies which intend to start set-ups on the Internet with intended CO.JP names (e.g. Website) in a timely manner.

2. Independent Administrative Organization

In the cases where an organization registering a JP domain name transforms into Japanese Independent Administrative Organization, it may hold its formerly-registered domain name as long as it can show the legitimate reason. This is to avoid confusion among registrants and users, and to concretize the relevant part in the JP Domain Name registration rules in compliance with a new Japanese Law related to Independent Administrative Organization.
