Partial Closure of WHOIS Services
WHOIS is the mechanism to publish registered information for the purposes specified in the "Policy Document (in Japanese)"
Contrary to the above purposes, some businesses make use of the WHOIS data to send direct mails. Use of the data for the purposes other than those specified may cause troubles, so it is becoming the serious issue.
To respond to this situation, JPRS will close the following WHOIS services on 7 October.
Your understanding and cooperation is appreciated.
Services to be closed on 7 October 2003
- Partial match
The following partial match services will be closed.
- Specifying "ABC..." as the domain search string to obtain partial match result of all domain names starting from "ABC" such as ABC-INC.CO.JP and ABC-NET.NE.JP.
- Specifying "EXAMPLE" as the registrant search string to figure out all domain names registered by the particular registrant.
- Bulk search
If there are repeated accesses from the particular user to the WHOIS Database during a short period of time, the access from that user will be temporarily restricted.
- Display of e-mail address of the person who updated the data most recently
E-mail address of the person who most recently updatad the data in "Domain Information" and "Host Information" will not be displayed.
