JPRS Submitted Joint Opinion with world technical community in the Public Consultation for the WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2025
On 14 March 2025 (UTC), JPRS, along with global technical community members (TCCM[*1]), submitted a joint opinion in a part of the Open Consultation Process (OCP) for the WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2025, which is being jointly organized by ITU, UNESCO, UNDP[*2], and UNCTAD[*3].
The WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2025, scheduled to be held from 7 to 11 July 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland, will serve as a platform for discussion of the WSIS+20 review and the WSIS action lines. Currently, opinions from various stakeholders are being sought to ensure the effective realization of this event, and this call for opinions was conducted as part of this effort.
In addition to re-emphasizing the importance of multistakeholder participation, which has been consistently advocated by TCCM, we expressed the view that academia and the technical community should be distinctly recognized as separate stakeholders. The opinion also called for clear documentation and publication of feedback received from the community and how it is reflected in the event and its outcomes. Furthermore, it highlighted the necessity of IGF as a permanent activity, including stable and secure long-term funding, while maintaining its independence.
