Change of JP DNS Server Configuration

(22 March 2005)

The service provided by "c.dns.jp," which has been one of its six name servers, will be terminated. Through measurement and examinations, it has been confirmed that JP DNS as a whole maintains the same quality of service even after the termination of this server.

Under the contract with ICANN, JPRS is responsible for operating JP DNS, making it possible to be looked up from all over the world. To date, JPRS has demonstrated its ability to manage the JP DNS with high performance, reliability and stability, by consulting and collaborating with the secondary name server operators regarding system configurations, service contents and operations. In addition, to further ensure its reliability, JPRS recently dispersed the name servers geographically as well as on its network, and introduced Anycast technology.

The aim of these arrangements is to respond to queries which have been increasing their numbers as the usage of the Internet grows. And this measure has resulted in high level of performance, reliability and stability.

JPRS will make an ongoing effort to improve stability and reliability of .JP domain name space, through examining and carrying out appropriate deployment and configuration of JP DNS servers, while keeping its flexibility to respond to changing demand for JP DNS, such as implementation of IPv6.

This time's change will also affect the reverse lookup service for IP addresses provided by JPNIC, as the service is provided through the same servers as JP DNS. Please refer to the following JPNIC site for details:
